Save the Affordable Care Act

Help Protect the ACA by Calling Republican Senators NOW!

Republican Senators Bill Cassidy and Lindsey Graham have proposed a new healthcare bill that is even worse than the bill that failed to pass this summer. Republicans are trying to ram this bill through by September 30th, without even waiting for the Congressional Budget Office to calculate how many Americans would lose health care. We don't know the exact numbers but the prior healthcare bill was expected to strip some 1 million NJ residents of their healthcare and saddle NJ with upwards of $4 billion in additional expenses. If passed the bill would:

         -Remove the employer mandate
-Eliminate tax subsidies that make premiums affordable
         -Eliminate Medicaid expansion
-Drop federal protections for individuals with pre-existing conditions
-No longer require essential services be automatically covered

Unfortunately, there's a real possibility that this bill will pass. Senator McCain (AZ), a key holdout against the last bill has not opposed this bill. Although we appreciate his NO vote over the summer, this is an audacious example of fighting for a party line instead of the American people. Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), who were also NO votes are also reportedly on the fence.

We must band together and let Republican Senators know that we will NOT tolerate the dismantling of the vital healthcare protections afforded by the ACA. You can make a difference by calling and writing Senators Susan Collins, John McCain , and Lisa Murkowski and asking them to VOTE NO again! Rand Paul (KY), is also on the fence for more conservative reasons. Let him know that this is not the answer to his perceived shortcomings of Obamacare.
