Join the Sussex/Warren Unit for a meeting and presentation!

Speaker: Amanda Bent, MSW, MPP

Drug overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in New Jersey, yet these tragedies are largely preventable. The Overdose Prevention Act, signed in May of 2013, represents a policy-based solution to this problem that is grounded in harm reduction and public health.  Empowering social service providers and various other stakeholders with knowledge about this life-saving law is a crucial aspect of successful implementation. This presentation will highlight the connections between harm reduction principles and social work ethics, explain the Overdose Prevention Act, describe recent implementation efforts, and highlight ways that social workers can promote overdose prevention in a multiplicity of settings.
