Topic: How To Effectively Work with Recent Immigrants in a Clinical Setting

Speaker: Yuko Inzana, MSW, LCSW

According to the 2011 US Census, 1.9 million people in the state of NJ are foreign-born immigrants.  One in four of New Jersey's foreign-born immigrants are either Latino or Asian.  Most immigrants bring their own customs and belief systems from their native countries of origin while they go through major adjustments to settle in the US.

Yuko will discuss how to approach people from different cultures in a clinical setting, including: effective assessment tools to identify their cultural identity; common problems in the first and second generation (and third generation); common changes in family dynamics after immigration; how immigrants view the mainstream American culture, what their understanding of mental health is; and how much of their behavior is culturally based vs. clinically based.

Please bring your business cards to pass among your colleagues.
