Holiday Wishes from NASWNJ

A Message from NASW-NJ Executive Director Walter Kalman

Social Work Month - March 2015

SW Month 2015"

2015 is a special year for the social work profession. It marks NASW's 60th anniversary!

The theme for Social Work Month - 2015 will be "Social Work Paves the Way for Change.

NASW’s goal during Social Work Month and throughout 2015 will be to educate the public about how social workers and the association have brought about major positive social changes, improved the lives of
individuals and families, and will continue to do so in the future.

Click HERE to see some of the activities being planned.

Become an NASW-NJ Unit Leader in the New Year!

NASW-NJ needs Unit Chairpersons and Co-Chairs for the following Units:

Atlantic/Cape May/ Cumberland
Mercer/Burlington
Monmouth/Ocean
Middlesex
Somerset/Hunterdon
Sussex/Warren

Unit Chairpersons and Co-Chairs are responsible for having regular meetings that are open to the members in their Units. These meetings should be held at least four times a year. Unit Chairpersons should also keep the overall membership informed of their Unit activities and concerns through written/oral reports to the Board and articles in FOCUS. They are responsible for recruiting social workers who are not members of NASW; identifying candidates for Chapter offices and soliciting nominations for Chapter awards; promoting NASW and the social work profession.

If you would like additional information on the benefits offered to Unit Chairs or would like to be on a Steering Committee, please contact Janine Hendryx at jhendryx@naswnj.org or by phone 732-296-8070, ext. 18.

I send best wishes to each of our more than 7,000 members and wish for you a happy and safe holiday season.

This In Brief introduces health and human services professionals (e.g., social workers, vocIn Brief imageational counselors, case managers, healthcare providers, probation officers) to borderline personality disorder (BPD)—a condition with high rates of suicide and self-harm that often co-occurs with substance use disorders. It also alerts professionals to the importance of monitoring clients with BPD for self-harm and suicidal behavior, and encourages professionals to refer such clients for appropriate treatment.
