What Courses Can I Take for CEU Credit in NJ?

tip sheet image

NASW-NJ Develops “Tip Sheet” to Help You Understand CE Regulations

New parts of the Regulations governing Continuing Education (CEUs) for Social Workers went into effect September 1, 2014. NASW-NJ has developed a “Tip Sheet” to help you understand what CE courses are now accepted in NJ.

There are expanded ways for many Social Workers to get CEUs. However, there are also specific limitations on which courses will be accepted by the Board of Social Work Examiners (BSWE/Licensing Board).

Make sure you read the NASW-NJ Tips before you choose your CE courses! NOTE: ALL courses offered by the NJ Chapter of NASW (NASW-NJ) are accepted by the BSWE.

Click here or go to http://tinyurl.com/Understanding-CE-Regs to see the NASW-NJ Tips Sheet.

You can also go to our Web site (www.naswnj.org), hover over Licensing or Continuing Ed and click on “Tips on CE Regulations.”

Assist DSW Student with Research on Mental Health Practices (Olmstead Act)

Aaliyah Dent, LSW is an NASW-NJ member enrolled in the DSW program at Capella University. She is currently working on a doctoral dissertation, entitled, “Perspectives of Social Workers Regarding the Olmstead Law: An Action Research Study.”

The purpose of Aaliyah’s research is to examine the perspectives of social workers, regarding the Olmstead Law and current state of mental health practices. The Olmstead Law is a federal law enacted by Congress to prevent extended hospital stays for patients who have been deemed as ready for discharge. The study is designed to determine whether the Olmstead Law and/or current mental health practices are causing gaps in service delivery for undocumented immigrants.

In order to participate in the study you must be a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s level social worker with a degree in social work and at least 3 years of work experience as a social worker.
