(5) Clinical, Ethics Credits


Recently the social work profession adopted updated ethics standards, regulatory guidelines, and practice standards, especially related to practitioners' use of technology. This conference will provide participants with an overview and in-depth examination of the profession's new guidelines. Dr. Reamer will explore high-risk ethical issues and practical strategies designed to protect clients and practitioners. The conference will include a series of challenging ethics cases and explore practical steps that professionals can take to manage ethical issues skillfully. Key topics will include novel forms of service delivery and ways to communicate with clients, management and storage of electronic information, boundary issues, dual relationships, conflicts of interest, confidentiality, privileged communication, informed consent, clients’ rights, documentation, and termination of services. Dr. Reamer will discuss relevant ethical standards; statutes, regulations, and case law; national practice standards; documentation; supervision; and consultation.

• New practice standards related to technology and social work
• New regulatory guidelines related to technology and social work

At the conclusion of this Institute, participants will be able to:
• Identify and apply new ethical, regulatory, and practice guidelines related to social workers' use of technology
• Identify challenging ethical issues and dilemmas in social work
• Apply practical ethical decision-making frameworks and protocols
• Identify ethical issues that pose malpractice and liability risks
• Design strategies to protect clients and practitioners

 

For those licensed in NY: NASW New Jersey Chapter SW CPE is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #0138.
