The Paul Shane Annual Policy Symposium

“Policy and Diversity”

The annual Influencing Government Policy Symposium was started more than 20 years ago by Rutgers Professor Paul Shane, who passed away in June 2014.  This year’s themes are Race Relations and Environmental Justice.

The Annual Policy Symposium is a great opportunity for social workers and social work students to learn more about shaping public policy and becoming a more active participant in government decision-making that affects us and our clients.  Sound public policies enable social workers to better meet human needs, be fairly compensated, and promote social justice.

This year’s symposium will feature a keynote speech on mass incarceration and racism, a variety of workshops on social justice issues including economic and environmental justice, plus poster presentations by social work students.
