The New Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers is a diverse membership organization that promotes, develops, and strengthens the professional practice of social work and social workers. Through advocacy and public policy, NASW-NJ affects progressive social change and social justice for individuals, families, and communities.
NASW-NJ is an administrative branch of the National Association of Social Workers, Inc. (NASW). Under the National Bylaws, the Chapter is constituted to advance the purposes of the association on the local level. Chapter program and structure is designed to encourage and facilitate participation by the members.
NASW-NJ is governed by a set of by-laws that outline the Chapter structure and decision making process. These are modeled after the National Bylaws, meeting their Standards for Chapters. Chapter programming is conducted at the local level by 12 active geographic Units, led by an appointed Unit Chair and Co-Chair.
Board of Directors
To carry out the purposes of the chapter, NASW-New Jersey has a Board of Directors. Officers of the Board include President, President-Elect (on those years when position is filled), Vice President, Treasurer, Treasurer-Elect (on those years when position is filled), and Secretary. An Undergraduate Student Representative, a Graduate Student Representative, and 4 Regional Representatives complete the Board of Directors. Committee Chairs and Special Interest Group Chairs may also attend Board of Directors meetings as guests.
